What to expect
-
During your initial consultation, our speech pathologist will meet with you and your child to explore your child’s current communication skills and developmental background. They will engage with your child through age-appropriate activities to informally evaluate your child’s speech and language skills. In collaboration with the speech pathologist, you can discuss the communication goals. The speech pathologists can also identify and recommend if further formal assessment is necessary. Initial appointments are 50 minutes in length, and you may be eligible to receive a rebate under an EPC Plan (from GP) or with your Private Health Fund.
Should a formal assessment be recommended, this will require additional sessions depending on the complexity of your child’s presentation. Once the formal assessment is completed, our speech pathologist will provide recommendations, including a plan for intervention which may include exercises to be completed at home between speech pathology sessions.
-
Individualised, in person speech therapy sessions which provide targeted intervention for your child’s area of need. Resources/materials are provided for home practise as appropriate.
Please note: It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that 3-4 appointments are booked ahead of time to ensure continuity of care.
-
While assessment and review are ongoing throughout the intervention, there will be dedicated times to pause and reflect on progress. This may include the completion of assessment measures or questionnaires, as well as individual feedback.

We understand that letters and reports etc may be requested. With You requires a minimum of two-weeks notice for such requests, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Timeframes will be communicated by the clinician depending on their availability and capacity to meet their ethical obligations. Please note there is a cost for these services, which will be determined based on the time needed to complete the service request. Your clinician will communicate with you before commencing and payment is required before the document is released.
With You clinicians do not complete court and capacity reports.
Please note: for children 12 years and under, the initial appointment will be a parent/ guardian only session. For clients attending under a Mental Health Care Plan, the Medicare rebate is unable to be applied for this session. This ensures that the rebates are available for the purpose of intervention with the client as specified under Medicare. Most importantly, this allows for the presenting problem to be discussed openly between guardians and practitioner. The aim is to protect the child from potentially sensitive information that is important for intervention formulation and planning.
