World Health Day and the Healthy Mind Platter

We all need to take time to nurture and nourish our minds. That’s why Dan Siegel, a psychologist and author of The Mindful Brain, developed the concept of the Healthy Mind Platter. The idea is to include seven essential mental activities in our daily lives to help us stay mentally healthy and balanced.

The Healthy Mind Platter includes:

1. Connecting: This means interacting with others and engaging in meaningful relationships. Whether it’s spending time with family or friends, or joining a group or organization, connecting is key to our mental well-being.

2. Physical Activity: Taking care of our bodies through exercise and healthy eating is just as important for our minds as it is for our physical health.

3. Play and Rest: Taking time to relax, kick back and have fun is essential to our mental health. This could mean taking a break from work, going for a walk, or just doing something you enjoy.

4. Intentional Thinking: This means taking time to reflect on our experiences, thoughts and feelings. Intentional thinking helps us to gain insight into our lives and to make more conscious decisions.

5. Meaningful Work: Doing something that brings us joy and fulfills our purpose in life can help us to feel fulfilled and content.

6. Taking Care of Your Spirit: This could involve meditation, prayer, or any other activity that helps us to become more connected to our spiritual selves.

7. Nutritional Support: Eating a balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and minerals is important for our mental health.

By practicing these seven activities on a regular basis, we can create a healthy mind platter and take care of our mental health. Health is more than just our physical selves after all. Making a conscious effort to include these activities in our daily lives can go a long way in helping us to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
